Although the Certificate of Class does not officially come under the HSSC, special surveys for class maintenance are in practice scheduled to coincide with renewal surveys for Cargo Ship Safety Construction Certificates and every fifth renewal of Passenger Ship Safety Certificates. On a ship in the HSSC, the expiry date of the Certificate of Class will therefore be the same as the expiry date on the statutory certificates that come under the HSSC.
