Can the MN Code of Conduct be used on a voluntary basis?

Yes.

Even where a Crew Agreement makes no reference to any rules or code of conduct, compliance with the MN Code of Conduct will ensure that, when dealing with any case of misconduct, UK employment law will be complied with. A UK employer may only dismiss a person for a fair reason and in a fair manner; adherence to the Code of Conduct will ensure compliance with the law.
