How much notice is given of the start of a new routeing system?

IMO-adopted routeing systems (traffic separation schemes, 2-way routes, recommended tracks, areas to be avoided, inshore traffic zones, roundabouts, precautionary areas and deep-water routes) come into force not before 6 months after the date of their adoption by IMO.Β

New charts, or Notices to Mariners to correct charts, must be available before a system comes into force, and the chart should state when the system comes or came into force. Weekly Notices to Mariners should be checked for new information.
