War risk policy

War risk policy. Under the usual Hull policies for ships, the β€œWar Exclusions” do not cover any loss, damage, expense or liability for a variety of causes.

The shipowner may obtain such cover from P. & I. Associations or buy additional war risk insurance. This additional insurance can be in the β€œInstitute War and Strikes Clauses, Hullsβ€”Time (1/10/83)” clause 1 of which describes the cover:

β€œSubject always to the exclusions hereinafter referred to this insurance covers loss of or damage to the vessel caused by war civil war revolution rebellion insurrection, or civil strife arising therefrom, or any hostile act by or against a belligerent power capture seizure arrest restraint or detainment, and the consequences thereof or any attempt thereat- derelict mines torpedoes bombs or other derelict weapons of war, strikers, locked-out workmen, or persons taking part in labour disturbances, riots or civil commotions, any terrorist or any person acting maliciously or from a political motive, confiscation or expropriation.”

(β€œConfiscation” could include arrests or restraints or any other form of government action; β€œexpropriation” could mean where a vessel was taken out of a shipowner’s possession by government action but not as a β€œpenalty”.)
