What are the MCA ‘s functions with respect to port State control?

MCA surveyors inspect non-UK ships visiting UK ports and terminals in accordance with Council Directive 2009/16/EC, using procedures agreed in the Paris Memorandum of Understanding onΒ and additional inspection. For major or multiple deficiencies, a ship may be detained in the UK or refused access to ports in the Paris MoU region. Inspection data are recorded on the THETIS targeting and information system. A monthly list of detained ships is published on the MCA website. (For other questions on port State control, see Section I )
