What are the requirements of The Merchant Shipping (Hours of Work) Regulations relating to working at night?

A seafarer who is 16 or 17 (i. e. a “young person”) may work at night if the work forms part of an established training, the effectiveness of which would be impaired by any prohibition. Otherwise, no seafarer under 18 may work at night. (“Night” means a period of not less than 9 consecutive hours including the period between midnight and 0500 local time. )
