What are the statutory requirements relating to records of navigational activities?

The Merchant Shipping (Safety of Navigation) Regulations 2002 require compliance with SOLAS regulation V/28, which provides that ships on international voyages must keep, for not less than 12 months, a “record of navigational activities and incidents of importance to safety of navigation”. The record must contain sufficient detail to restore a complete record of the voyage. If not kept in the ship’s log book, it must be in another form approved by the flag State Administration.
