What criminal penalties is a master liable to?

The penalties prescribed by the law of the State which created the offence that the master is accused of.

For example, in UK law a master is liable to a fine of up to £250, 000 for wilful oil pollution of UK waters, while some coastal States impose more severe penalties for a similar offence in their own waters. (For the heaviest penalties imposed by UK courts, see Offences and penalties in Section B.)
