What should be done with the gear of a deceased seaman who was employed on a UK ship?

The master should have two officers tally and pack the seaman’s gear ready for returning to the next-of-kin via the agent at the next suitable port. One copy of the list should be packed with the gear and one should be annexed to the Official Log Book. Customs may want to check the gear before landing.
