To: (1) implement the safety and environmental protection policy of the Company;
(2) motivate the crew in the observation of that policy; (3) issue appropriate instructions and orders in a clear and simple manner; (4) verify that specified requirements (of the SMS) are observed; and (5) periodically review the SMS and report its deficiencies to the shore-based management. (Para. 5.1 requires the Company to clearly define and document these responsibilities.)
