What UK merchant shipping legislation is being, or has been, reviewed in order to implement the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC 2006) in the UK?

As explained in the Consultations section of the MCA website, the MLC 2006 is being implemented in the UK by a package of 13 new SIs, in three phases.

Consultations have closed on Medical Certification (for which The Merchant Shipping (Maritime Labour Convention) (Medical Certification) Regulations 2010 (SI 2010/737) have been made), and Annual Leave (for which new regulations are pending). Other new SIs will address: Seafarer Compensation and Shipowner Liability: Crew Accommodation; Food and Catering; Medical Care; Seafarer Employment Agreements; Wages; Repatriation; Flag State and Port State Responsibilities; Recruitment and Placement; Minimum Age; and Health and Safety. Draft SIs and draft M Notices can be viewed on the MCA website www. dft. gov. uk/mca
