How does the MCA verify a ship’s compliance with the ISM Code?

By determining: 

(1) that the Company’s SMS conforms with the requirements of the ISM Code; and (2) that the SMS ensures that the objectives defined in paragraph 1. 2. 3 of the ISM Code are met, i. e. that the SMS ensures compliance with mandatory rules and regulations, and that applicable codes, guidelines and standards recommended by IMO, Administrations, classification societies and maritime industry organizations are taken into account.
