Time charter parties usually provide that after the vessel has been unavailable to charterers for a specified period of time because of machinery breakdown, winch breakdowns, crew strikes, hull damage, drydocking or other reasons not beyond owners’ control, payments of hire will cease until the vessel is available to charterers again. During this time the vessel is said to be off-hire.
