A UK ship’s third engineer is absent without leave two hours before sailing. What action should the master take?

The full complement listed on the Safe Manning Document must be on board when going to sea.ย 

If the third engineer forms part of the engine room OOW complement listed on the SMD, the ship should not sail until a replacement is engaged. The master should discharge the absent engineer from the Crew Agreement, land his gear to the agent, and engage a qualified replacement.
