Additional port charges

Additional port charges. These are charges additional to the base ocean freight rate of a liner operator or liner conference.  β€œDirect additionals” at the port of shipment and at the port of discharge reflect any extra costs to the carriers in serving ports to which the flow of traffic may be insufficient to justify the port being included as a normal base port for which the base freight rate applies. Transshipment and feeder port additionals may also be applied to cover the costs to the carrier of transshipping and forwarding the cargo from a base port to other outports within the operator’s or conference’s discharging area. For some regions, a conference may impose a β€œDestination delivery charge” or DDC, depending on the additional costs of labour or handling in that region. For example, ANERA applies a different DDC for destinations on the United States West Coast and East Coast.
