How is the STCW Code arranged?

In two parts: A and B. Part A contains mandatory provisions to which specific mention is made in the STCW Convention, including standards of competence required to be demonstrated by candidates for the issue and revalidation of certificates of competency. Part B contains recommended guidance intended to assist Parties to the STCW Convention and those involved in implementing, applying or enforcing its measures to give the Convention full and complete effect in a uniform manner. The numbering of the sections of Part B corresponds with that of the articles and regulations of the STCW Convention.
