What are archipelagic waters?

Waters established for mid-ocean archipelagic States.Β 

They have a similar status to that of the territorial sea, but the coastal State is bound by a number of additional obligations regarding access to traditional fishing grounds, for other legitimate activities and for the maintenance and replacement of existing submarine cables.
