(1) They must be medically fit.
(2) They must have been trained in personal survival techniques before being assigned to shipboard duties. (3) On joining the ship they must have had familiarisation training in respect of emergency duties as well as routine duties for the safe operation of the ship and the protection of the marine environment. (4) They must be able to communicate in the common working language determined for the ship.
