What is an example of strict liability in shipping?

The strict liability of a shipowner for certain types of cargo oil pollution damage under the International Convention on Civil Liability for Oil Pollution Damage 1969.Β 

Victims of cargo oil pollution damage do not have to prove fault on the part of the shipowner in order to obtain compensation. The shipowner is liable for any damage caused, or threatened, by cargo oil. M. 1577 explains the extension of strict liability of shipowners for oil pollution damage.
