What records must be kept of garbage disposed of?

An entry must be made in the Garbage Record Book:

(1) when garbage is discharged into the sea; (2) when garbage is discharged to reception facilities ashore or to other ships; (3) when garbage is incinerated; and (4) of accidental or other exceptional discharges of garbage. A record must be made of each discharge operation or completed incineration. When cargo residues are discharged at sea, the ship’s position where the discharge started and stopped must be recorded.
