What rest periods are prescribed by The Merchant Shipping and Fishing Vessels (Health and Safety at Work) (Employment of Young Persons) Regulations 1998?

Where a young person is engaged as a worker on any ship, he/she must be provided with: 

(1)a rest period of at least 12 consecutive hours in every 24- hour period; and (2) a rest period of at least 2 days, which must be consecutive if possible, in every week. Where a young person’s daily working time is more than 4 1/2 hours, he/she must be provided with a rest break of at least 30 minutes, which must be consecutive if possible. (Reg. 6)
