A UK vessel’s ship security officer holds an SSO qualification obtained before 1 January 2008. Does he have to obtain a new Certificate of Proficiency as SSO?

SSO qualifications obtained before 1 January 2008 can continue to be recognized by flag State Administrations until 1 July 2009. From 1 July 2009 all SSOs must hold a Certificate of Proficiency as a Ship Security Officer in accordance with STCW Regulation VI/5 and STCW Code Section A-VI/5.
