What are the UK statutory requirements relating to use of VTS outside territorial seas?

(1) The master of a UK ship or a non-UK ship bound for a port in the UK must ensure that, when the ship enters a VTS area outside the territorial waters of an EEA State, the ship complies with the rules of the VTS if they are in accordance with IMO Guidelines.Β 

(2) The master of a non-UK ship which is not bound for a UK port must ensure that, when the ship enters a VTS area outside the UK territorial sea and the VTS is operated by the UK or two or more States one of which is the UK, the ship follows the rules wherever possible.
