Ships of 1000 GT or more (except pleasure craft and fishing vessels) which go to sea beyond the Near Continental Trading Area, provided the majority of the crew are domiciled (i. e. have a legal place of residence) in the UK. (The now- defunct Near Continental Trading Area extended from 62Β°N latitude on the Norwegian coast to Brest on the NW French coast, enclosing all the British Isles and much of the NW European coast. )
