A new Certificate of Class is issued periodically to a classed ship. What does this certificate certify, and when is it normally issued?

It certifies that the ship has been surveyed by the society’s surveyors and reported by them to be in a fit and efficient condition in accordance with the society’s rules and regulations, continues with the class as indicated by the certificate. It is normally issued on completion of a special survey.
