A UK ship is going into “warm lay-up” in a sheltered harbour with essential crew members on board. What are the MCA’s requirements concerning ISM Code documentation?

(1) The Safety Management Certificate will remain valid and audits must be carried out as required by the ISM Code.Β

(2) The Safety Management System may need to be revised to cover activities required during the lay-up period. (3) The Safety Management System will require amendment to cover the procedures required to put the ship back into full operation. (4) If the lay-up is longer than three months, or a different crew puts the ship back into operation, an additional ISM audit will be required. (See also LAY-UP in Section I.)
