What are the MCA’s responsibilities to the Department of Transport in respect of maritime security?

(1) Implementing the ISPS Code for all UK-registered cargo ships;

 (2) undertaking security aspects of Port State Control (PSC) inspections of foreign vessels in UK ports, including passenger ships where this is a logical extension of the PSC inspection; (3) receiving and handling ship security alerts in line with agreed standard operating procedures; and (4) approving and auditing training providers for Ship Security Officer (SSO) and Company Security Officer (CSO) courses.
