What are the UK statutory requirements for the launching in drills of free- fall lifeboats?

A free-fall lifeboat may be lowered to the water if launching is impracticable, provided that free-fall launching with the assigned operating crew and manoeuvring in the water is carried out at least once every 6 months. If it is impracticable to launch within a period of 6 months, the shipowners may apply to the MCA for an extension to 12 months.
