What is the maximum period of validity of an International Load Line Certificate, and may it be extended?

5 years from the date of completion of the initial or renewal survey, subject to annual surveys. Under the Harmonized System of Survey and Certification it may be extended for up to three months (or for ships on short voyages, for a period of grace of one month) in order that the renewal survey can be carried out.
