What is the purpose of a ship security assessment?

To identify weaknesses in physical structures, personnel protection systems, processes or other areas that may lead to a security breach, and to suggest options to eliminate or mitigate the risks identified. A SSA should consider both strategic long-term issues and short term operational issues and should identify the trading patterns and cargo types considered.
