What is the UK’s Renewable Energy Zone (REZ)?

A zone established under the Energy Act 2004 beyond the limits of the UK territorial sea, in which the UK can exercise rights over the production of energy from water or winds. The REZ is similar in function and extent to an exclusive economic zone (EEZ). UK criminal and civil law are extended to the REZ. The UK Government issues licences to developers of wind farms, etc.
