What surveys are required for a Passenger Ship Safety Certificate?

(1) An initial survey before the ship is put in service;

(2) a renewal survey once every 12 months (which is to include an inspection of the outside of the ship’s bottom); and (3) an additional survey, either general or partial, according to the circumstances, after a repair resulting from an investigation or whenever any important repairs or renewals are made.
