The Merchant Shipping (Prevention of Oil Pollution) Regulations 1996 (SI 1996/2154).
They require UK crude oil tankers of 20, 000 dwt and above and product carriers of 30, 000 dwt and above for which the building contract was placed before 6 July 1993 to be subject to an enhanced programme of inspections (in accordance with IMO Guidelines) during renewal, annual and intermediate surveys.
