Owners of certain oil tankers will require oil pollution liability insurance.

Β (See Civil Liability Convention Insurance below. ) Bunker oil pollution insurance will be required for ships of more than 1000 GT. (See Bunkers Convention insurance below. ) Owners of seagoing UK ships of 300 GT or more will require insurance against liability for maritime claims. (See COMPULSORY INSURANCE OF SHIPOWNERS FOR MARITIME CLAIMS below. ) Depending on their ships’ operations, owners may require additional insurances against war risks, freight, demurrage and defence (FD&D), loss of hire, strikes, and various other risks.
