Only those trained and competent to do so should operate any work equipment.
Instruction should be given to the vessel’s personnel to enable them to appreciate factors affecting the safe operation of work equipment. Training and safety information for those on board should include an understanding of the relevant sections of the Code of Safe Working Practices for Merchant Seamen.
