What surveys are required for the safety equipment of a UK cargo ship of 500 GT or more on international voyages in the HSSC?

(1) Before the ship is put into service an initial survey of the safety equipment;

(2) within 3 months before or after each anniversary of the issue date of the Cargo Ship Safety Equipment Certificate, except where a periodical survey is required, an annual survey; (3) within 3 months before or after either the second or third anniversary of the issue date of the Safety Equipment Certificate, a periodical survey; (4) within 3 months before the fifth anniversary of the issue date of the Safety Equipment Certificate, a renewal survey (for issue of a new certificate); and (5) after any repair resulting from investigations following a report to the MCA or a proper officer of an accident or a defect affecting the safety of the ship or its LSA, an additional survey.
